Lovie Goes to Lambeau!
LOVIE GOES TO LAMBEAU
When she was simply a very young girl, watching football with her dear ol’ dad,
Lovie would dream of a land far away, one that was yellow-green clad.
The home of the Packers, her favorite team, of the frozen tundra they’d brag.
She loved looking on through her TV view at the tailgating food and the swag.
The people would cheer like none she had seen, always shouting with every new play.
They’d gather around no matter how the team did, faithful fans who always would stay
True to their team, yelling ‘Go Pack Go’, seldom a negative word.
‘You can Do it - we have faith in You’ were among the things that were heard.
Lovie married a man who shared her great love of the Packers and all of their fans.
He followed them closely and always looked forward to Sunday and their weekend plan
To watch the game live and then sometimes record in case we had very bad luck;
Hearing lousy announcers who hated the Pack, the voices of Aikman and Buck.
She had many children all taking their cue to cheer for the great Green and Gold.
Each weekend they’d gather around the TV and in wonder of Lambeau behold.
The children grew up and had their own kids, but whenever we could we would meet
Around the old TV with family and friends and great Green Bay food we would eat.
As Lovie grew older, still loving the Pack, one day under breath she did muse;
I’d still love to see it, the grand Lambeau field. T’would be the great trip I would choose.
But someone DID hear her, she’s not quite sure how. Did it sound so much like a plea?
But then again Lovie said all sorts of things, if not, who then would she be?
We’ll get her to Lambeau, the sneaky lad said. And there he devised quite the plan.
We’ll drive cross the country, the family and she. To Title Town proudly we’ll land.
So off to Green Bay the family set out, two kids, a dog and her man.
A plane ride would’ve been nice but budget was tight so we all had to leave in a van.
To Green Bay we drove, our sights keenly set for the land that wore yellow and green,
And no disappointment wherever they went for the fans, there is always a scene
Of cheering and greeting and talking of plays that each game would bring on Sunday.
The coaches, the players, the fans all would yell and of Green Bay Packers would say,
“They’re the best in the land, we love them we do. We’ll cheer whether win or defeat”.
But truly in each heart the win was the hope and at Lambeau field they would meet.
And true was the scene when Lovie arrived after climbing a whole bunch of stairs.
The game they were playing, their arch enemy, was the very real Chicago Bears.
Rivalry as far back as one could recall - of gigantic proportion and size.
Two teams that had fought hard for many a year, all striving to win the big prize.
The game was quite thrilling, the crowd was ablaze, the team never missing a beat.
It was over so fast Lovie’s head was a whirl! To the Bears the Pack gave a defeat!
Lovie sat back in her seat trying to take it all in; the game, the fans and the team.
She marveled at how this had all happened so, to Lambeau she really had been.
